I ran into an old friend i had worked with a few years ago. She had moved to my little beach town from the city and we had talked about hanging out when she moved there. So when I saw her I asked if she was still living nearby. She told me that she’d moved again. I then said that it was a shame we hadn’t spent time together when she actually lived nearby. She said, “don’t you remember? I asked you three times! Every time I did you told me you were too hungover”. I had no recollection of that. Sounds about right though. Stopping drinking was the polar opposite of being boring. I used to be so scared I was going to miss out. On what? Embarrassment? Humiliation? Anxiety? Shame? I don’t miss those emotions at all. I also don’t miss feeling like death every day. Happy Saturday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
