It’s everywhere. It’s more rare not to drink than it is to drink. I didn’t notice how soaked our culture was until I quit. When I first got sober it seemed to be everywhere I went. Grocery shopping turned to ordering my groceries online so I wasn’t asked if I wanted wine sample. A few months into my alcohol free journey I was having a challenging day. I went into my grocery store to get some candy (I’m a bit of a sugar lover 😒) and there were THREE different tables handing out samples of wine. I was so close to walking over to the first one because I was TIRED of working so hard to not drink. It was exhausting me and I wanted some relief. As I was walking over I saw a friend I hadn’t seen in months. We said hey and she told me how impressed she was as she had heard I was sober now. I can’t even express how grateful I am that somehow the Universe put her in my path to slow me down and recognize. If I’d have had even one taste, it’d be over. I’m not the type to daintily have a sip or two and then stroll over to a boutique to browse their latest fashions. I’m more the type to hit each of the sample tables, buy one of each of the wines they were selling, and grab a 12 pack on the way out. And from there? You get it…I’m sure. I’m not buying what they’re selling. I’m not even taking it for free. There’s no freedom in alcohol for me. Happy Saturday, sober family. Keep it simple today.
