I don’t need to be the best at being sober. I don’t want a gold star or medal or trophy. It’s an absolute miracle that I could go a day without a drink, much less years. The only person I want to be better than is myself from yesterday. I’m doing the world a favor by not taking a drink today. I’m not hungover, nasty, or anxious. I’m not lying to cover my tracks or hiding the bottles from family or friends. I’m not getting behind the wheel fucked up. Maybe that’s not noteworthy to some, but it’s huge for me. When I first got sober I slept a lot. I drank a ton of water. I mourned the old drinking me and forgave her. And i just didn’t drink. Happy Thursday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
