We Need to Talk

It’s hard to find another four word sentence that invokes more anxiety than “we need to talk”. Oh how I hated hearing those words when I was drinking…or the day after. The problem wasn’t that I knew what I’d done and could come up with excuses. I just never knew. It could’ve been anything. We need to talk, you drove drunk again. We need to talk, who was that person you went home with last night? Or the worst of the worst…we need to talk, I’m so worried about you. Now if people need to talk to me I actually remember what I did and what we talk about. I can listen without getting anxious or humiliated. I can be there for the people who need me. It’s a better conversation when you don’t want to hide under the covers with the blinds closed because of the crazy shit you did last night. Happy Friday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
