Moderation

Don’t ask me. I never could moderate my intake of anything, especially alcohol. One of the greatest gifts of sobriety is that I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I cannot drink successfully or in moderation. Every single time I tried I wound up just as drunk. If I had to moderate for an event I’d be aggro and annoyed until I could get home and “drink the way I wanted to”. These sisters have a harrrddddd time listening to others tell us what’s best. We also go all in or we’re out. So..we went all in. For many years. We are both like that with sugar, caffeine, exercise, and work. It’s challenging to keep habits sustainable when your expectations aren’t met right away. It’s easy to give yourself permission to give up. Recently I thought about giving up candy, at least for beach season 😂😊and found myself hiding mini snickers bars in my bedside table. I ate them that same night. Going alcohol free has given us the gift of self awareness that we were too numb to see when our bodies, minds, and spirits were drowning in alcohol. We know who we are now. We don’t even think that we can manage alcohol. We’ve done enough research. When I’m done, I’m done. Happy Monday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
