Happy

When did being happy become so elusive? Our kids wake up happy. Our teachers and mom seemed to do the same…when did we stop knowing how and where to find it? When we started drinking it seemed to make us happy. Our friends and family members were all doing it, of course we’d hop on that bandwagon and end up driving it. We sisters like to be the best. We like to stand out and win. Well, we lost to alcohol. We couldn’t find that sweet spot anymore – the feeling of a four beer buzz. It would come, but we’d be too busy making sure we had enough to last the night. There was no gift of the present when we were always in search of the stupor we’d get in the near future. Hearing newly sober women say that they’re scared to quit drinking and that they won’t know what to do with their time was ME a little over 3 years ago. I was petrified to lose my bestie – the bottle that stood by me through breakups, letdowns, and disasters. Funny thing is that now I don’t have many letdowns and zero disasters. Sobriety has given me the skills to live life in the moment and be grateful for the little things. Happy Tuesday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
