The joys of sober holidays. Sure it was nice to have a few drinks to take the edge off when seeing family. What’s a holiday without some spirits?! Unfortunately when my sister and I got together with family for holidays we drank too much and the night inevitably ended in some sort of drama or tears. As a parent I can recall countless times hiding Easter eggs or wrapping Santa’s gifts while I was completely shitfaced. Kind of takes the joy out of the holidays. I’d always “need” a nap after eggs were found and gifts were opened, only to wake up and start drinking- it’s a holiday after all! It’s an amazing feeling to celebrate anything without the black cloud of alcohol hanging over my head, ready to dump a bunch of bullshit my way. Life is so much better on this side.
