Move it

I’d been to 12 step meetings in the past. You don’t drink heavily for 30 years and never attend one, court ordered for me. I heard people say, “you have to give up your old people, places, and things”. Well that wasn’t going to work for me. I’d never lose my boyfriend! I’d never give up on my barfly friends! I couldn’t give up the places I went! They NEED me there! Um…nope…they didn’t. The energy I put out now attracts like minded people. We don’t muck up our brains and spirits with substances that “make it all go away”. We don’t engage in judgement or gossip, and we certainly don’t lie, cheat, or steal anymore. I left rehab thinking I’d made 15 new best friends. They’ve all gone out to drink or use again for their various reasons. I can’t and won’t find a reason to go back out and drink my problems away. When I do that, I wake up with 75 more and a hangover. Today I wake up grateful for my sobriety and the life it allows me to lead. Happy Thursday, sober family! Keep it simple today.
